As 90-minute fluff we're talking serious entertainment here. If you're wanting more profound film-making look elsewhere (not that Besson is incapable of this either). From Paris With Love doesn't rewrite the rules of the action or spy genre, but it does play every expected note loudly and maniacally.

Zunächst scheint es um die Zerschlagung eines Drogenrings zu gehen, dann aber kristallisiert sich das eigentliche Ziel heraus: die Verhinderung eines Terroranschlags. Unabhängig von wechselnden Einsatzvorgaben, bleibt Travoltas Ermittlungsmethode gleich. Koks-Gangster mit chinesischen Wurzeln wie auch Terroristen mit muslimischen Hintergrund werden zu Dutzenden und im Fünfminutentakt von ihm in den Tod geschickt. Der Bodycount ist beachtlich, die Action so knackig und kinetisch, wie sie Pierre Morel in einem ernsteren Kontext bereits in „96 Hours“ inszenierte. Islamische Terroristen, die westliche Politiker und nichtsahnende Bürger in die Luft sprengen wollen, scheinen sich besonders gut als Feindfiguren für einen solchen Actionfilm zu eignen. Wenn Wax einen Sprengstoffgürtel zündet und aus dem Fenster auf seine Bastler wirft, hat die Szene einen gewissen sprichwörtlichen Witz über Gruben, in die man hineinfällt. Aber in diesem Film ist es die Summe derartig abgebrühter Hinrichtungen, die übel aufstößt, muss man beim Auftritt eines nichteuropäisch aussehenden Menschen bereits erwarten, dass er gleich erschossen wird. Wax is in Paris on assignment to investigate drug dealers that may have had a role in the death of a family member of the Secretary of Defense. The two men investigate the dealers and find that they are financed by a group of terrorists from Pakistan. The agents find that the dealers bad acts go beyond the overdose death of the family member and they have bigger goals. The terrorists are planning on blowing up the Embassy where James works. When the two agents discover the terrorist hideout, there are pictures of James on the two agents also discover the James’ fiancée, Caroline, is a double agent and is working for the terrorists. When James confronts her, she shoots him and escapes out the window. Caroline then attempts to drive a car into a government motorcade to assassinate the Ambassador. She is wearing an explosive vest. Wax blows up her car with a rocket launcher but she escapes injury. James then catches her and tries to persuade her to abandon her murderous ways. She ignores him and James is forced to kill her. The mission complete, Wax decides to leave France. He is so impressed with James’ performance that he asks him to be his partner, promoting him to a full-time CIA operative.
